7/23 Works in Progress Here

Priscilla's Explorer #1
This is the final product from my 1st explorer. He finished the narrative he wrote based on Minecraft. We worked on adding descriptive details throughout and not using "they" "and" too much. He loves to use "and."

Priscilla's Explorer #2
While we didn't get to complete a narrative because we have been busy working on our reading skills, Daniel and I have been working towards his final project. I have seen awesome progress in Daniel's work these past few weeks! I am sharing the KWL chart we completed together based on the informational text we have explored.

Patrick's Exploration
8th grade Jose is using his letter organizer to help write his letter to his elected official. The organizer includes writing cues and sentence starters. As Jose writes, I encourage him to go back into the graphic organizer to include golden lines and paraphrased summaries. In addition, I am including more specific feedback on his writing.

5th grader Truman is creating his superhero narrative on Google Slide. He used his graphic organizer to help organize his storyboard and added an image to help illustrate his story. I am providing more feedback to include more visualization in his writing.

Mrs. Gonzalez's Explorers

Daisy has been working hard reading texts about cats and researching online articles in order to gather more information for the brochure. After reading, she used the note taking strategy of boxes and bullets to capture her main idea and supporting details onto her paper. She also watched videos as an additional informational resource.

Zoe has been working fast and furiously on her book about humpback whales! She has gathered and recorded tons of information from textbooks, videos, online newspaper articles, scientific journals, and photographs. Zoe has been organizing her notes using boxes and bullets and is using them to create her writing into paragraph form. She is also making sure to include informational text book features such a glossary, table of contents, and more.

Julie's Explorer #1

He recorded the information about ocean pollutions including what is it, how it harms marine animals and humans, where are the plastic pollution, what we can help to slow down, or solve the ocean plastic solution. He synthesis the solutions about came up with the topic he wanted to work on for the digital book. The one highlighted in blue is the selected topic.

Julie's Explorer #2
Yoselin works really hard in the summer program. Her internet signal is pretty bad. Often, we wait a long time for things to load and audio.  She always waits for my instructions and the text to load. She uses active reading every time when she reads. She took a lot of note to help her understands the books and articles. She think the disappearing of panadas' habitat is the main factor of pandas endangerment. Therefore, she wanted to inform others how pandas' home being destructed. Below are the ideas she came up with for the final project.

Megan Explorer #1- Alexander
Alexander and I worked heavily on editing this page. We worked on adding our information and then adding additional text features to make it more interesting. Alexander dictated the page and I typed it out because he was having trouble accessing the document I shared with his mom. He chose the different features we added. Some errors remain because I wanted it to be true to what he told me to type and I refrained from correcting parts he did not tell me to.

Megan Explorer #2- Adrian
Adrian and I studied graphic novels pretty heavily. We then discuss important elements to a fiction story we used shared google slide document to brainstorm our story and then began to turn it into a graphic novel incorporating the elements we learned about. Adrian has missed some sessions so it is still very much a work in progress

Tiffini's Explorers

Last week, both explorers wrote the introduction of their stories.  This week we read and examined fiction texts to help plan the plot of our stories.  Below are their graphic organizers.

Jasmine's Explorers

The top photo is from Nicolas (2nd grader) as he summarized the entire book since we just finished. After doing this, he selected the most action-filled scene to create storyboard on. The bottom photo is from Nathan's (8th) planning document for his brochure about Chicago, this paragraph was focused on the history of Chicago.

  1. Daniel is a rising 8th grader. He wrote a personal essay about his name.

Have you ever wondered what your name meant? Well me too and I used to serch google for an hour until i found one “ultimate” meaning. What I found out is that my name means: a gift from god. Now your probably wondering what my name is and its MATEO(my middle name), or at least what I go by. I like this name more because of the meaning and its history. See it came form my catholic religion as the apostle matthew (or mateo in spanish) and I like the spanish version more👍. My other name Daniel(my first name) means god is my judge. I like that meaning beacause of my religion but also because both my names mean something of god which I very like.

Other names or nicknames I have is peanut and I get kind of embarrassed of it sometimes. This nickname is only used by my older cousins. And the name started from my mom side, but now my dad’s side uses it more. It started out as kenai from the movie brother bear 🐻 because i have 2 other brothers and we were like the 3 brothers in the movie. As the youngest i was called kenai. It turned into peanut when my grandma couldnt pronounce it and said “peanut”.

My names were chosen for me differently. For my first name Daniel, it was chosen after my moms great grandpa👴 Daniel this is what my mom named me. My middle name Mateo, was chosen after the apostle from the bible and this is the name my dad gave me and the one I go by.

My names are special and serve a, well actually serve different purposes unlike most people. For most people its just there name. For me its 2 different names and like 2 different identities. I use Daniel for people I dont know or people I know I wont get close with. For Mateo theres 2 stages: my friends, and my family. For my friends I get along with them and have a good time and im not that weird. For family or really close friends I let REALLY get to know me with me being weird and all that. This is why my names are special and why I love them so much.
