Fire Vs. Ice- Patrick Kelly
As Flamethrower Management emerged from his secrete lair, to the streets of Chicago. He could feel the panic in the air as he watched people running through the streets. Ice man and his ice block army matched towards Flamethrower Management and froze everything in their way. A dark cloud followed the ice army. Flamethrower management knew that he was the only superhero that could save the city. He was the guardian of Chicago. Although Flamethrower Management was outnumbered, he knew that he would have to use his cleverness and power of the sun to take down the ice army. Nevertheless, Flamethrower Management knew that if his plan would work he would ahve to get to the highest point in the city, the Willis Tower.

Final bell rings I’m out the door
What am I going to do
Start a new project
Or go to the beach
Read a book or
Maybe sleep
The possibilities endless
And time not an issue
2 (Mary)
Possibilities endless
in a different year
but this one
is books and backyards
walks and screens
hearing others’ stories
and telling few of our own

As my student Christian was writing a personal narrative story about how his car broke down, I wrote in tandem with him a story about when I experienced car trouble.
ReplyDeleteIt was an ordinary work day. It could have been Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday. I was tired. It was a long day because I remember my car was one of the last ones left in the parking lot. I started my car and pulled out of the parking lot slowly as usual. When you are pulling out of a parking lot at a school, you must drive very slowly as there are children always nearby. It must have been a nice day because I remember I had my windows down. I heard a very light scraping sound but did not pay any attention to it. It could have been coming from anywhere. As I pulled out of the parking lot and started driving on the street, the scraping noise got louder as I accelerated. I was confused. Was that noise coming from MY car? I approached a stop sign so I slowed down to a stop. The scraping noise stopped. Oh no. As I started accelerating again, the scraping noise started again. Oh noooooo. The noise WAS coming from my car! I pulled over to the side of the road, got out of my car, and tried to find the problem. What I saw was a flat tire. Ugh. What am I supposed to do? I know that I have a spare tire but I have no idea how to change the tire. Am I strong enough to even lift the tire? Do I have tools? I’m not sure. I know that I cannot fix this by myself so I think that the only thing I can do is call my dad and ask him if he can come help me. I hate to do that. He lives about 30 minutes away but I guess I have to bother him. I start to head back inside my car when a stranger walks by and asks me if I have a spare tire. Yes, I tell him. He asks me if I have tools. I’m not sure I say. He explains to me where I might be able to find them in my car. I look. I find tools! He tells me that he can change my tire for me. THANK YOU SO MUCH I tell him with as much appreciation in my voice as I can possibly express. I feel so much relief. Does he have any idea how much he has helped me and saved me with this kind gesture? Maybe. Maybe not. His kind gesture makes him a hero to me.

Yesterday
we ran from seagulls
into Lake Michigan
to wash the sticky
juice of ripe peaches
off our summer skin
crisped and tender from the sun
(Tiffini)
Today
we relaxed and laid back
on the warm sand
exhausted our legs tired
our skin aching
yearning for more
another fun day in the summer sun
